Lauren Johnston, MSW

Program Manager at Melanoma Research Foundation- CURE OM Initiative. The The Melanoma Research Foundation is the largest independent organization devoted to melanoma. Committed to the support of medical research in finding effective treatments and eventually a cure for melanoma, the MRF also educates patients and physicians about prevention, diagnosis and the treatment of melanoma. The MRF is an active advocate for the melanoma community, helping to raise awareness of this disease and the need for a cure. Ms. Johnston is community minded professional with 10+ years of diverse non-profit experience ranging from program development, fundraising campaigns, and client services to volunteer coordination, and personnel management.

Board Vice President

Cecil J. Velazquez

Mr. Velazquez is the Director of Small Business Development at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Denver.  He helps business owners and companies connect, build their brand, create job opportunities and build effective business relationships. He grew up in Thornton, Colorado and started his college education in Sterling at Northeastern Junior College and graduated from Denver Business College with a degree in Business Marketing Management. He started his career with Charles Schwab as an Options Specialist and Derivatives expert.  He is fluent in Spanish and was the face and the voice for Spanish speaking commercials for several businesses on Spanish channels and local print media. 

Mr. Velazquez moved to San Antonio, Texas in 2004 to care for his parents, where his father succumbed to Alzheimer's and his mother passed away from complications with diabetes and a rare liver disease.  During his 8 years in San Antonio, he spent 5 years with Discovery Custom Homes as a sales and training manager. The final 3 years, he worked for Clear, an internet company, owned by Sprint, as a sales and training specialist.  

Mr. Velazquez moved back to Denver in 2012 and began working with Customer Solutions Group as Sales Executive. He created a sales “blue print” that yielded high results and gave structure to the department while allowing the sales team to personalize their sales presentations.

Board Member

During Mr. May’s 26-plus year tenure at the Adams County housing Authority, he helped to grow the organization from 132 units of affordable housing, to more than 2,700 units. His vision and entrepreneurial spirit has also helped shape the organization’s culture in instrumental ways, including the founding of our nonprofit partner, Low Income Family Empowerment (LIFE). Mr. May’s visionary thinking and guidance has allowed our organization to be agile, adapting to the needs of our constituents, driving growth and fiscal stability. His leadership in the affordable housing industry is well known, and his insight and intellect have influenced policy and inspired new leaders at the state and national levels. We in the housing community are grateful for his many years of service and passionate leadership.

for the City of Denver

Mr. Dishno assists in designing Denver's future transportation system due to rapid population growth and implement a cohesive strategy that accounts for all of the different modes of transit for roughly 450,000 daily commuters. Senior level logistics manager and executive consultant with experience working at Fortune 500 companies as well as within local government. Developed and executed the strategic plan for the Arizona and Colorado markets; motivated and lead work teams to flawless execution of the same. Proven track record of turning under performing teams into profitable operations while maintaining employee morale and job satisfaction. Possess the ability to clearly communicate an organization's mission, vision and goals to employees with the end result creating a world class experience for the customer and improved financial results. Accomplished, professional, strategic business leader with almost 20 years’ experience in sales and management.

Former: Officer in Dallas Police Department for five years, more than 26 years in law enforcement experience. Education: Bachelor's degree in criminal justice from University of North Texas, master's in political science from University of Colorado, graduate of FBI National Academy. Mr. McGregor seeks to serve those he leads through "compassion and consistency" and by being "fair and firm." Aurora, CO is a booming city of 350,000 citizens located along the front range of the Rocky Mountains. Ranked as the safest large city in Colorado, it is also the 18th safest large city in the nation!

Hannah (Brown) Hoong
Coordinator of Admissions & Outreach at Front Range Community Collge

Ms. Hoong organizes and facilitate large campus visits to Front Range Community College of up to 175 middle school and high school students. Front Range Community College, the largest community college in Colorado, offers nearly 100 degree and certificate programs from locations in Boulder County, Larimer County, Westminster, and Brighton, and online. Correspond with prospective students, meet with families to help them learn about FRCC and provide tours of the campus. Create and maintain strong partnerships with area middle and high school counselors as well as related community partners. Support students from diverse backgrounds in the college enrollment process. Coordinate and participate in recruitment events such as Counselor Breakfasts, Counselor Boot Camp, Admitted Student Days, and the Open House.

Andrea Wieland

Ms. Wieland enjoys leading and managing teams, and developing strategies for students life long Career Development. Ms. Wieland likes using technology and reaching others through technology to help them develop their fullest potential. 19 years’ experience in Higher Education (Admissions, Career Services, Teaching, TRiO and Title V), as well, as six years’ experience in nonprofit communications and development.

Peter LiFari
Executive Director at Unison Housing Partners

Mr. LiFari has been with Unison Housing Partners since 2014, previously serving as deputy director. LiFari believes strongly in dual-generation solutions, housing equity and working across sectors to nurture innovative partnerships to address poverty. He holds an MBA from the Florida Institute of Technology and prior to his time fighting to mitigate generational poverty at ACHA, Peter spent over 12 years in support of national security working as a civilian contractor across the United States. In addition to his duties as director, LiFari will continue to serve as the senior vice president for Mountain Plains NAHRO (National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officers), and treasurer for the Early Childhood Partnership of Adams County.

Ms. Duarte is an events professional with a diverse portfolio working in the industry

for almost a decade. Her experience includes Higher Education at MSU Denver

working with diversity, outreach and donor events. Ms. Duarte then lead the

strategic events goals within Marketing and Player Development focusing on

revenue-generating, grand design, and guest service idealsfor Pinnacle Entertainment.

Currently, she is the Sr. Global Events Coordinator for Scrum Alliance, a professional

certification association within the technology industry. Ms. Duarte’s experiences

have made her a champion for event management, marketing, branding, program

management, social media management, strategy and ROI analysis.


In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends and family as much as possible,

loves hiking, traveling, watching movies and drinking wine.
