Help Build a Playground for our Youth
Thanks to a significant grant from KaBoom! and our project sponsor The Finish Line Foundation, we are building a playground this September 18th and 20th at Creekside Place Apartments in Thornton. While the grant and prep work has been ongoing for over a year, we now have the enviable task of building it! With that said, please accept this as our formal invitation requesting your assistance to join us to prep and build the playground that was designed by the kids in the community.
We’re asking for up to 10 volunteers per organization to help us with the site prep day on 9/18/18 and the build day on Thursday 9/20/18 with lunch provided on both days. This is a great opportunity to roll up your sleeves, build comradery with your colleagues and help make this dream a reality for the children and families of Creekside Place Apartments. I’ve included a flyer for your review and below is the sign up link if you’re interested. (View Flyer)

Become a mentor for our youth
We are looking for you! The LIFE Mentoring program is designed to increase youth’s self-awareness, job readiness, and post-secondary preparation through group formatted mentoring. By working with a group of 3-4 youth in an area school on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, this program offers mentors and mentees an opportunity to connect on a personal level, while sharing experiences and guidance in a semi-structured environment. You don’t need to prepare anything in advance. A Unison facilitator will present a brief lesson that guides the group’s discussions.
Qualities of a Mentor:
Flexible Schedule (bi-weekly classes are during after school hours). Mentors can choose from a variety of times and days of the week.
Respectful of the mentee’s opinions, background, perspectives, and decision-making
Willing to initiate conversation and lead the group conversations when necessary, but able to give youth a comfortable stake in the relationship as well.
21 years or older
Can commit to a year of Mentoring
Persistent and understanding when working with youth
Sharing experience relating to college and the working world.
